majulah!

MAJULAH! Tuesday was Singapore's 46th birthday and Singapore's birthdays are kind of a big deal here - fireworks, helicopters, military planes with stuntmen parachuting out of them, a huge parade, the full program. Before the festivities, my university hosted the Rag & Flag ceremony opposite where the official birthday ceremonies would take place in the amazing Marina Bay.

Rag & Flag is a yearly tradition at NUS where freshmen from each faculty spend a month coming up with a theme, arts and crafting (if that is even a word) a float and choreographing a whole routine that includes dancing, flips, throwing girls into the air, everything. It's faculty versus faculty and at the end of the whole night a winning faculty is crowned. NUS Business had won 5/6 times so far and this year they won again, woohoo! It was nice to cheer on our faculty and get into the school spirit! It reminded me of the sports competitions at MKIS and ISHCMC, it's a bummer that in Europe events like these aren't as common...

Sadly my camera died halfway through Rag & Flag so I had to be super quick taking pictures of the official festivities, trying to squeeze out every little bit of power my camera had left - the pictures turned out rather horrible, but you can still sort of get an idea of what the day was like... One of the most exciting days here so far...
